ORANGE Telecom Project

Acronym:
ORANGE
Start Date:
1 August 2011
Research Line:

The aim of the project is the usage of the M-Atlas system on Orange GSM data to extract human mobility models.

In the first phase of the project we have proposed a case study on human mobility as perceived by Orange telecom infrastructure. Based on GSM data of roaming users, we tried to understand how visitors of a touristic area use the territory, with particular emphasis on visits to attractions. Several issues due to the nature of available data are explored, providing hints and heuristics to tackle them, and a comparison with external information sources on touristic activity is performed.

The second phase will be the introduction of techniques to enrich the data in order to overcome the incompleteness problem and the introduction of two new models: correlation pattern and mixture pattern which are specifically designed on GSM data.
